Activity

The BRC was established by the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina System on August 11, 2000. It is located on the Centennial Campus of North Carolina State University.

The mission of the BRC is to develop and implement methods for the management and interpretation of genomic data, with an emphasis on agriculture, forestry and veterinary medicine. By working closely with other groups at NC State University, and with research organizations and companies in the Research Triangle and beyond, the BRC plays a key role in ensuring that the genome revolution leads to an improved quality of life for the citizens of North Carolina.

The primary goal of the BRC is to serve as a focal point at NC State University for the development of computational and statistical tools for genomic data. The BRC consists of a group of faculty, staff and students who perform basic research and who also interact with the producers of data, both on and off campus. BRC objectives include:

  • Develop methods to manage and interpret genomic data.
  • Work closely with related Centers, including the Genome Research Laboratory, the Forest Biotechnology Center, the Fungal Genomics Laboratory and the Nematode Genome Center.
  • Establish collaborations with other academic, research and commercial organizations in the Research Triangle and beyond.
  • Provide knowledge transfer to students and other genome scientists.

Began operations on Centennial Campus in 2000.
