Global Change Games: Bee Simulator

September 10, 2021 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

It can be difficult to talk about climate change. Through the use of fictional scenarios, games help us explore and reflect on the challenging and sometimes frightening problems we face. In this series, we will livestream gameplay and discuss how climate change games help us understand and grapple with the diverse and interrelated problems resulting from rapid global change.
Bee Simulator lets you explore a world brimming with life in which you collect pollen, defy dangerous wasps and save your hive from pesticides, habitat loss, and pathogens. During this event, Libraries’ Learning Spaces and Services staff members Colin Keenan and Alex Valencia will play Bee Simulator and talk about how the game helps players to be much more aware of this micro-world and its challenges. Colin Brammer, coordinator of the Natural World Investigate Lab at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, will join the stream to talk about bees and climate change. This event will be streamed live from our Twitch page. Anyone can watch the livestream, and if you have a free Twitch account, you can ask questions and make comments in the live chat. Recordings of past streams are available on our YouTube page.
