  • ABB Unveils Smart Grid Center of Excellence

Centennial Campus partner ABB unveiled its new Smart Grid Center of Excellence to corporate, government and university leadcers at a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Center is the nation's first-of-its-kind demonstration center and testing lab using cutting-edge software and equipment aimed at improving reliability in the midst of extreme weather.

ABB unveiled the Center at its Power headquarters. Raleigh Mayor Nancy McFarlane and other local officials toured the high-bay facility and office space to learn how cities can be prepared to deal with weather emergencies.

"As the demand for power continues to grow, and as the electric power grids of today become more complex, they must get smarter to improve reliability and energy efficiency," said Enrique Santacana, president of ABB Inc. and region manager for North America.

ABB was Centennial Campus's first corporate partner, establishing a presence in 1990. It currently employs about 400 people on campus.
