  • Eastman Innovation Center Celebrated on Centennial Campus

    Eastman Chemical Company celebrated the grand opening of the East Innovation Center on Centennial Campus. 

    "We are in the beginning stages of a relationship that we expect will yield powerful results for our company," said Eastman Chairman and CEO Jim Rogers. "the marriage of Eastman's expertise with NC State's competencies will strengthen our ability to provide solutions for the markets Eastman serves."

    More than 60 officials from Eastman and NC State attended the event outside the Partners II building, which houses the Eastman Innovation Center. The Center is a 1,500-square foot laboratory and office space where Eastman scientists are working with NC State faculty and students on cutting edge in chemistry, materials science and other disciplines. 

    "Our collaboration with Eastman demonstrates the great value public-private partnerships bring to both the university and our corporate partners," said Randy Woodson, NC State Chancellor. "This is really a great opportunity for our researchers and students. The transformative research projects that will be conduted here will create new knowledge and create economic value."

    In September 2012, Eastman and NC State announced a six-year, $10 million research agreement. Eleven proposals from faculty were selected in the first roun of funding. A second round projects are currently being evaluated.
